Israeli Gunfire Kills 17 Palestinians Near Aid Site in Gaza
At least 17 Palestinians were killed and dozens wounded after Israeli troops opened fire near an aid distribution point in central Gaza, according to local health officials. The incident happened as thousands of displaced people were gathering to receive aid from a U.S.-supported humanitarian group.
The wounded were taken to two hospitals—Al-Awda Hospital in Nuseirat camp and Al-Quds Hospital in Gaza City.
The Israeli military said its forces fired warning shots at “suspects” who were moving toward troops near Wadi Gaza, claiming they posed a threat. The military also said it was checking reports of casualties but disputed the numbers given by Gaza health officials.
The army added that the warning shots were fired hundreds of meters away from the aid site before it opened and were aimed at people they saw as a threat.
