Euro 2024 winner joins on a five-year deal with Arsenal as Gunners reshape midfield after Partey, Jorginho exits
London – July 7, 2025 — Premier League side Arsenal have officially signed Spain international Martin Zubimendi from Real Sociedad in a high-profile transfer worth $75 million (£55 million), the club confirmed on Sunday.
The 26-year-old Euro 2024 champion, long linked with Liverpool and Real Madrid, chose Arsenal over several top European clubs. He signs a five-year contract and becomes the Gunners’ second summer signing, following the arrival of goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga from Chelsea.
“The Move I Wanted” – Zubimendi Speaks Out
“This is a huge moment in my career,” said Zubimendi.
“I set my sights on Arsenal because their style of play suits me. This club is massive, and the best is yet to come.”
According to The Athletic, Arsenal paid above Zubimendi’s €60 million ($71m) release clause to structure the fee in installments, allowing financial flexibility as they continue to strengthen their squad.
Arteta: “A Key Player for the Future”
Manager Mikel Arteta praised the midfielder’s football IQ and versatility:
“Martin will bring immense quality and intelligence to our midfield. He’s the perfect fit and has everything to become a key player for us.”
Zubimendi is expected to anchor the midfield following the departures of Thomas Partey and Jorginho, allowing Declan Rice to push further forward and Martin Ødegaard to maintain his creative role.
Gunners Continue Transfer Blitz
Zubimendi’s arrival is part of Arsenal’s aggressive push for silverware, after finishing second in the Premier League for three consecutive seasons and falling short in the Champions League semi-finals last year.
Christian Nørgaard of Brentford is reportedly close to signing, and the club is also pursuing Sporting Lisbon striker Viktor Gyökeres, aiming to solve last season’s lack of a consistent No. 9 due to injuries to Kai Havertz and Gabriel Jesus.
Chelsea winger Noni Madueke has also been linked as Arsenal look to boost their attacking options.

- Age: 26
- Previous Club: Real Sociedad
