My Journey from Struggle to Success
AOA, my name is Kiran. I’m a top-rated content writer on Upwork, but my path here wasn’t easy. I come from a small village where my family lived a simple life, always struggling with money. My father had a small shop, but it was barely enough to support us—me, my two brothers, and four sisters.
Early Life & Education
I studied in a government school and always scored above 80-90%. As the youngest in my family, I saw my sisters complete their education privately. When I passed my matric exams with 85%, I got a solar panel as a reward—a big deal for us!
My brothers went abroad but faced visa issues and couldn’t send money home. I remember times when even buying shampoo was hard. Once, in school, we had to pay 10 rupees for a bet, but I only had 5. I borrowed the rest and skipped the canteen for days to pay it back.
College & Financial Struggles
After matric, I wanted to attend college, but my parents couldn’t afford it. Luckily, I got a scholarship of 36,000 rupees for two years, which helped me complete my ICS at a government college.
Next, I needed a university degree (BSCS), but money was still tight. Then, I heard about a virtual university where I could study online. My sister had an old laptop, so I started teaching at a village school for just 2,000 rupees a month to pay my fees.
Challenges & Determination
- No Internet: Our village only had slow 2G internet. I often climbed to the roof for better signal to submit assignments.
- Broken Laptop: My sister’s laptop broke, but luckily, I got a new one through the Prime Minister’s Laptop Scheme.
- Job Struggles: After completing my degree, I worked at a school but was fired for asking leave for a family wedding.
Moving to the City & New Opportunities
I took a developer internship for 5,000 rupees a month, but traveling was tough. My family moved to the city with me, but then COVID hit, and I lost my job.
Discovering Freelancing
A neighbor helped me start a Fiverr account. At first, I earned very little, but then I learned about content writing. A girl offered me work, and I started making 5,000–10,000 rupees a month.
Later, I got a content writing job at MAF Tech for 30,000 rupees—a huge step up! I also joined an Upwork training course and started freelancing. My first client paid $3/hour, which felt like a jackpot.
Success & Umrah
By late 2023, I saved $1,600 and took my parents to Umrah—a dream come true. Now, I earn six figures monthly from Upwork while still working at MAF Tech.
Final Message
My story shows that struggles don’t last forever. If I could go from earning 2,000 rupees to six figures, so can you. Never give up!
Alhamdulillah for everything. ❤️
