Pakistan credits Trump’s “decisive diplomacy” despite India denying his involvement in conflict resolution
Pakistan Lauds Trump’s Crisis Mediation Efforts
Islamabad, June 21, 2025 — The Government of Pakistan has announced plans to formally nominate U.S. President Donald Trump for the 2026 Nobel Peace Prize, citing his “decisive diplomatic intervention” during the recent military standoff with India.
The announcement came shortly after Trump criticized the Norwegian Nobel Committee for not recognizing his role in mediating several global conflicts, including Serbia-Kosovo and the recent peace deal between the Democratic Republic of Congo and Rwanda.
Disputed Involvement in South Asia Ceasefire
While Indian officials deny any involvement by Trump in the ceasefire process, Pakistani authorities praised the U.S. president for his “strategic foresight and statesmanship”, claiming his direct engagement helped prevent a full-scale conflict between the two nuclear-armed neighbors.
“This intervention stands as a testament to his role as a genuine peacemaker,” the Pakistani Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement on X.
Four-Day Standoff Sparked Global Alarm
The diplomatic push followed a four-day border confrontation in Indian-administered Kashmir, triggered by a deadly militant attack that New Delhi blamed on Pakistan — a claim Islamabad denies.
The conflict raised fears of another war between India and Pakistan, who have already fought two wars over Kashmir.

Trump Touts Mediation Role and Trade Talks
Speaking from New Jersey on Friday, President Trump said:
“We did a very great job with India and Pakistan… and it looks like we’re going to be making a trade deal with both.”
Trump also reiterated his willingness to mediate in the Kashmir dispute, calling it a key obstacle to lasting peace in the region.
Kashmir and the Path to Peace
The Pakistani government emphasized that long-term peace in South Asia is not possible without addressing the Kashmir issue, pointing to the UN Security Council resolutions as the only viable framework.
“Durable peace in South Asia would remain elusive until the implementation of UN resolutions concerning Jammu and Kashmir,” the statement read.
Broader Global Peace Hopes
Islamabad also expressed hope that Trump’s foreign policy approach will help resolve other major global crises:
“We remain hopeful that President Trump’s pragmatic diplomacy and peace-building legacy will contribute to resolving the ongoing humanitarian tragedy in Gaza and the escalating tensions involving Iran,” the Foreign Office added.
